How we met

Brian and I met the first week that I moved to Colorado as a traveling nurse. I had a car full of clothes, my dog, and a case of beer when I showed up to his house. Through mutual friends, I became a temporary roommate at Brian's house. Brian likes to tell people that I was some homeless chick who was couch surfing, but I just needed a place to stay until I could move into my new apartment. I remember seeing a guy walk outside with crazy bedhead and no shoes on. The first thing he asked me was if I was from Boulder because I was wearing Birkenstock sandals. I wanted to respond, "well at least I'm wearing shoes" but I decided to be nice and tell him more about myself. We quickly became friends and over the next couple of months, I realized that what we had was more than just a friendship. So I decided to give him a shot and what started off as temporary roommates, then friends is now ending with us getting married!

Proposal

Being the guy, proposals are stressful enough as it is. I had to try three times before I was able to pull it off. The first try, I planned to go to Breckenridge because it was the first place Alyssa and I went after we met. I even hired a photographer to capture the moment of the proposal. At 11pm the night before, Alyssa texted me that she was picking up an overtime shift and I had to call it off. The second try, we were going to hike in Golden where the photographer was going to be waiting for us. Despite it being an easy hike, Alyssa was feeling sick and I could not get her to leave the house. The third and final try, we made a plan to go ice skating with our friends in Evergreen. Little did we know, the ice rink was closed for the day due to the snow heating up the ice (who even knew that was a thing). We decided to walk around the lake and I proposed to Alyssa on the trail. She made it a bit difficult, but in the end she was very surprised and excited. So excited that she forgot to say yes for a few minutes. Eventually she said yes and I could finally take a breather. All's well that ends well.
